This is an excerpt taken from the Ridge Creek Wilderness Website under FAQ.
“Will Ridge Creek Wilderness accept payment or file for payment with my insurance company?Ridge Creek Wilderness only accepts payment from the parent/legal guardian of the student. We do not provide an itemization of costs associated with therapeutic treatment and wilderness activity, nor do we provide any other insurance-related information. However, Ridge Creek Wilderness’ accreditation by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations is recognized by many insurance companies.”
Herein lays the problem, one of many:
· Firstly, if the facility/program does not itemize cost for therapeutic treatment(counseling) and the facility does not provide any other insurance-related information, the parent/legal guardian cannot file insurance – JCAHO or no JCAHO (Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
· Secondly, a HUGE SECONDLY at that, according to JCAHO, regarding Ridge Creek Wilderness on June 01, 2011, “this facility is not currently accredited by the Joint Commission.”
· Thirdly, stating that JCAHO “is recognized by many insurance companies” is oblique and ridiculously misleading.
· Fourthly, it is deceptive, fraudulent marketing.
Accreditation can change on a dime.
Do not rely on marketing materials.
Do your homework, rely on yourself.
Contact your insurance company.
UPDATE 06-10-2011: THE JCAHO ACCREDITATION CLAIM HAS BEEN REMOVED FRON THE RIDGE CREEK WILDERNESS WEBSITE.
